A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

A thirst for knowledge and the fun of getting an answer correct is the draw for many a quizzer. The late Shri TK Subramanian (1923-1998) was among those who derived joy from the brain game. A widely-read man, the extent to which he knew about history, geopolitics, cinema, sports, and the arts was remarkable. He also elevated those around him through his enthusiasm for the mind sport.
In keeping with the spirit of this wonderful individual, we celebrated his centennial year through a quiz.
Those who have quizzed a few decades ago will recollect quizzes replete with printed question papers, slide films, and the like. We aimed to recreate this atmosphere with an old-school format.
The quiz was conducted on 18 February, Saturday, at the beautiful new outlet of the bookstore Atta Galatta in Indiranagar.
Thirty teams attempted the prelims on printed question sheets, and six made it to the final. The prelim and the final were entirely ppt-free; visual questions were in the form of Xerox copies of newspapers or magazines.
The quiz was won by the team of Anustup Datta and Thejaswi Udupa. Sachin Deshpande and Debanjan Bose placed second, followed by Preetham Upadhya and Navin Rajaram. Shri TK Subramanian’s wife gave away the prizes. to the winners and other finalists.
